EDUCATOR EXCELLENCE AND SUPPORT

Research shows that top-performing teachers can make a dramatic difference in the achievement of their students and suggests that the impact of being assigned to top-performing teachers year after year is enough to significantly narrow achievement gaps. To promote the goal of having an excellent teacher in every classroom and an excellent principal in every school, we must make equitable access to excellent educators a priority by:

encouraging strong support systems for teachers and principals,
providing assistance to strengthen the education profession,
promoting equitable access to excellent teachers and principals through innovative staffing and leadership opportunities, and
supporting the application and discussion of meaningful equity data on which to base workforce decisions.

Multi-State Collaboration Leads to Creation of Micro-Credentialing in an Educational Human Capital System Framework (September 2019)

A multi-state collaboration hosted by the South Central Comprehensive Center (SC3) at the University of Oklahoma Outreach has released a co-created resource, Micro-Credentialing in an Educational Human Capital System Framework, to assist state and local education agencies.

First Class for Teachers in Oklahoma

SC3 and the Oklahoma State Dept. of Education support 50 first-year elementary and secondary teachers during the 2018-19 school year.

Improving Local Educator Equity Plans in Missouri

C3 supports Missouri Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education's efforts to develop and implement strategies addressing equity issues in districts and schools spanning over three years of work.

SC3 Support Leads to Teacher and Student Success in Arkansas

The South Central Comprehensive Center (SC3) at the University of Oklahoma provided assistance to the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) and North Little Rock School District (NLRSD) to launch a pilot of Opportunity Culture at the district’s middle school for the 2017-18 school year.

C3/DESE/ADE Northwest Missouri Equity Lab #9

C3 is assisting the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in developing methods to encourage and support local districts and schools in the development of local Educator Equity Plans by creating Equity Labs.

SC3 Support for State Educator Equity Plans: The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced the launch of the Excellent Educators for All Initiative in July 2014 to foster the recruitment and retention of quality educators in high-poverty, minority, rural, and urban school districts. The Initiative calls for state education agencies (SEAs) along with district leadership, school leadership, teachers, parents, and community stakeholders to develop statewide educator equity plans by June 2015.

The teacher licensure team at KSDE has reported sustainable improvements of the staff members’ capacity to better meet the needs of the state education agency (SEA) and its customers, the teachers of Kansas.

Multi-Tiered System of Support Action Plan

Central Comprehensive Center (C3), North Central Regional Resource Center (NCRRC), and Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) staff members and partners gathered on June 6, 2013, to begin discussion and develop an action plan to design a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).
