Moving Up - Teacher & Leader Effectiveness in Oklahoma

SC3 at OU is partnering with EDUTAS and the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) to deliver a series of professional learning opportunities by developing the knowledge and skills of assistant principals taking on the unique challenges of Oklahoma’s high-poverty/minority and low-performing schools. The Moving UP project prepares the next round of daring leaders with data-driven vision and focus through collaborative decision-making and stakeholder engagement. SC3 supports Moving Up as part of its ongoing mission to build OSDE’s capacity, ensuring that all students have access to effective teachers and leaders. EDUTAS with SC3 coordinated the program design, curriculum development, delivery, technology and project management for a series of professional learning opportunities for 70 assistant and head principals serving Oklahoma public schools and districts. Anchored in research and professional best practices, the Moving UP project incorporates face-to-face sessions and a virtual learning environment with group and individual cognitive coaching to enhance participants’ leadership, collaboration and communication skills. Cohort one began in Sept. 2016 and ended in Nov. 2017 (pictured above). Cohort two began in Sept. 2017 and is ongoing, with the same long-term goal of honing skills for tomorrow’s leaders in education.

"We now have the opportunity to go out into the world and make lasting change to support and equip our students," said Moving Up Cohort 1 team member Diedra Bradley.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Coaching Model in Louisiana

SC3 at OU is collaborating with the Louisiana Department of Education (LDE) in its efforts to improve the academic achievement of English language learners (ELLs) across the state. SC3 continues to provide professional development, content coaching and promising strategies through the ESL Coaching Model. The Model provides support to general education classroom teachers as they work together with the ESL teachers and coaches in planning and delivering content lessons to ELLs in mainstream classrooms throughout the entire school day. Long-term goals include cultivating student outcomes for diverse learners and improving teaching and learning for ELLs.
