Using Classroom Assessment Data


This document highlights Chapter 5: Using Classroom Assessment Data of Assessment for the Diverse Classroom: A Handbook for Teachers from the Florida Department of Education. Though the document makes reference to the Sunshine State Standards, the principles conveyed are applicable to classrooms in any state. Simply substitute your state standards where the Sunshine State Standards are mentioned.

Chapter 5 provides information on how to turn the assessment data into information teachers can use and share with others. The chapter describes three ways the classroom assessment data can be used.

Under "Using Assessment Data for Students," the chapter offers several techniques for monitoring student progress, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and providing feedback.

In regard to "Using Assessment Data for Improving Instruction," the chapter provides a four-step approach to use for improving instruction.

Pertaining to "Using Assessment Data with Administrators," the chapter suggests how classroom assessment data can be used in conjunction with state assessment data to assess curriculum weaknesses and identify students who need further intervention.
