Developing an effective parent involvement program requires planning involving school leaders, teachers and parents. The following steps are suggested by the National PTA's National Standards for Parent/Family Involvement Program.

  1. Create an Action Team
  2. Examine Current Practice
  3. Develop a Plan of Improvement
  4. Develop a Written Parent/Family Involvement Policy
  5. Secure Support
  6. Provide Professional Development for School/Program Staff
  7. Evaluate and Revise the Plan
