Each local education agency (LEA) receiving Title I funds is to utilize a portion of them to support professional development activities to ensure that their teachers and paraprofessionals meet the qualification requirements.

  • For fiscal years 2002 and 2003, the LEA must use not less than 5 percent or more than 10 percent of its Title I funds.

  • For each fiscal year after 2003, the LEA must use not less than 5 percent of its Title I funds.

  • The LEA is not required to expend the required amounts if their expenditure is less than the 5 percent and is sufficient to ensure that the LEA's teachers and paraprofessionals meet the qualification requirements.
